I have had this bible for some time now and I find it a fantastic for bible studies where it gives so much background information via the study notes about the passage I am going to read. As a new Christian, this will make an ideal first bible to buy enabling the new Christian to understand the bible quickly so they can grow spiritually.
I highly recommend this bible. I have always struggled to understand and interpret the bible, until now! The NIV Life Application Study Bible has opened my eyes to the importance of reading the bible to gain insight into Gods message for us all. I feel renewed and strengthened in my faith. The Commentators make complete sense of what is meant by the bible text and also how it applies to our lives today (Both Old and New Testament). Background history is given on each book of the bible along with the message ‘hidden within’ and Author information.
I personally, for example, was surprised to discover that Proverbs was written for three audiences (in three sections in other words) 1-9 Wisdom for Young People, 10-24 Wisdom For All People, and, 25-31 Wisdom for leaders. I also like the extensive Index which enables you to ’search’ for people, places and passages in the bible by subject according to your need at a specific time (e.g. Depression, Anger, Tired, Trust, Thankfulness, Surprise etc etc etc). I apologise that I am not very good at expressing myself so all I can really say that makes sense is. If you, like me, want to really truly understand the bible and as a result feel closer to God then this is the bible to own! (Also just for reference, if desired, this bible fits into an Extra Large bible cover).
